Columbus Walmart hosts grand reopening looking to make economic boom

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The Columbus Walmart has a new look. The store hosted a grand reopening to celebrate the renovations of the store.

This is the first update the store has had since the year 2000, and they’re hoping it makes an economic boom within the community.

“I’ve been living in Columbus a long time so I’m very familiar with Walmart. It’s like night and day compared to what it was,” said Colleen, a customer from Columbus.

Cathryn Borer said this is just what Columbus needs for economic growth and development, especially with all the industry that’s coming into town such as the Aluminum Mill, Terber Tylor, and many more.

“With us having the Air Force Base here, a major university, Mississippi University for women, and all the incoming industry, I thought that we not only could do better, but we deserved better,” Borer said. “We are going to see a lot of new jobs, and with new jobs come salaries, and larger salaries, and people can spend money, and we are gonna need a place for them to spend money but also to find what you need for your day-to-day life.

Store Manager Kautina Seals said that enhancing the store will draw in more people from the community.

“What we’re trying to do is get back into the community, and partner with different businesses to get Walmart’s name back out there in a positive way,” Seals said.

Not only that, the surrounding rural towns in East Mississippi and West Alabama will come to the city and spend more disposable income.

With Black Friday around the corner, they are hoping that the economic boost will take off.
