Columbus women walk to raise awareness about breast cancer

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Step-by-step a group of Columbus ladies walk to raise awareness about breast cancer.

They all wore pink shirts to kick off a month long series of events.

The nearly 50 women, along with some guys, walked around Sim Scott Park this morning in Columbus.

Each Tuesday this month the group will have a breast cancer program at the Sim Scott community center.

They are trying to get out the message about early detection.

“We are trying to support the ones that have been through it and the ones that are already through it to encourage them and try to work with them any way we can. The sooner you catch it and learn about it, the better off you are and the best chances you have,” said Valerie Weaver, President Sim Scott Seniors.

At the end of their walk, the group released balloons in honor of those that died or survived breast cancer.
