Community honors late Monroe County man with road sign

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Community members came together to dedicate a road sign in honor of a late Monroe County man, Jimmy Hanna.

The part owner of Hanna Contracting in Aberdeen was known for his work on the job and throughout the community.

The road that was dedicated leads to the Monroe County Fallen Officers Memorial Training Center.

This is the last job Jimmy Hanna worked on while battling two different cancer diagnoses.

Members of the sheriff’s department believed that this would be one way to honor Jimmy Hanna’s life and legacy.

“We know he is always here. We know he is always looking over this project and is here to make sure it’s going to be done correctly. One of the main things that he liked. He is always about the community and looking out for the next generation that was the biggest thing he wanted to do in everything that he did. So, it is very special to us to see that he is going to be here for the next generation of us as our kids and grandkids and the next generation of officers that are going to be coming through this program,” said his wife, Nikki Hanna.

Nikki Hanna said that her husband was able to finish laying the dirtwork for the site.
