Cooler Temps for Thursday

COLUMBUS, Mississippi (WCBI) — Following some severe storms passing through northeast Mississippi yesterday, conditions will be slightly cooler across our area — although it may not feel that way with abundant moisture still sticking around in the air.

THURSDAY: The high temperature will reach around 91°, but with all the moisture in the air, that heat index will get up to around 101°. However, temps will remain cooler for most of the afternoon, in the 80s, so it won’t be quite as warm for today as it has been recently. Winds are out of the northwest at 5 mph. A slight chance of showers and storms will persist through the morning and early afternoon hours, with some clearing later in the afternoon. However, that chance of rain returns after the end of the workday and will stick around through the evening.

THURSDAY NIGHT: A slight chance of isolated thunderstorms will return in the evening hours and last into the early morning, around 2 a.m. Afterwards, conditions will be pretty calm, although some patchy fog will build into our area as we approach sunrise. The overnight low temperature will be 71°.

FRIDAY: Any fog that is present around sunrise should dissipate by 8 a.m. The high temperature will be around 93°, but heat index values aren’t likely to reach 100° as humidity drops getting into tomorrow. A 20% chance for showers sticks around, with partly sunny conditions in store for most of the day. Winds will be out of the north at 5 mph.

A deep partial lunar eclipse will be taking place tonight, with maximum coverage at 11:13 p.m. Partly cloudy conditions with those isolated storms may make it difficult to see, but with some breaks in the clouds, you may be able to see that iconic “blood moon” — just look up at the night sky! Partial eclipse coverage will go from 9:33 p.m. until 12:52 p.m. tonight.
