DA Scott Colom nominated to serve as federal judge

MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) – District Attorney Scott Colom’s nomination for judge is headed back to the White House.

President Biden nominated Colom to serve as a federal judge in the U.S. District Court-Northern District of Mississippi in Oxford.

But Mississippi Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith did not return what’s known as the “blue slip” in support of Colom.

It’s tradition for senators from the state of a nominee to return a blue slip in favor of the candidate in a confirmation vote.

So for months, the nomination has languished in committee.

Nominations that have been neither confirmed nor rejected are automatically returned at the end of a session.

Further consideration can only occur if and when the President submits a new nomination to the Senate.
