Michael Watson Kitchen Table Tour makes stop in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The present and the future were on the table Monday in Columbus.

Mississippi Secretary of State is in the midst of his Kitchen Table Tour, talking to Mississippians about the real problems and real issues facing everyday residents.

The Secretary of State’s office is responsible for handling elections, so November’s General Election, voter engagement, and participation were topics of discussion.

This year’s election isn’t the only one on Watson’s mind. Next year he will be on the ballot and looking for a new post, Lieutenant Governor.

“Again November 3rd is a big day. A lot of elections happening around the state and this country. We’ve got not only the Federal elections, but also some judicial seats as well as some special elections around the state, so really important for folks to get out and vote, and most importantly, again, not just registering to vote, make sure you’re an educated voter.”

BUTTED SOUND

“I think they can expect somebody who’s going to build teams. You know, just like we do with our Kitchen Table Tour, I bring folks in from around the state talking about issues important to all Mississippians to make sure, if it’s education, if it’s public safety, how can we respond better to them, to make policies that actually work. And in the sense that we’re over responding withthe long arm of government, how can we draw that back?”

The Secretary of State’s office is reporting that so far around 9,700 absentee ballots have already been cast for November’s election.
