Former Aberdeen city clerk has reached a settlement with the city

ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) – The former Aberdeen city clerk reaches a settlement with the city.

Jackie Benson was the city clerk for 16 years before being fired by former Mayor Maurice Howard in July 2020.

Court documents show the two parties reached a settlement and it was approved by the court on August 10th.

In her lawsuit, Benson claimed she was fired because she provided information to investigators with the Attorney General’s office that resulted in an indictment against Howard.

Howard pleaded guilty to embezzlement earlier this year.

The terms of the settlement are confidential.
