Horror at the Fairgrounds displays Halloween spirit with a spooky event for a good cause
COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Lowndes County sheriff’s office and community benefit committee are currently hosting their annual Horror at the Fairgrounds event.
Activities kicked off Thursday, and will go through Saturday with $10 admissions, $5 hayrides, food and a haunted house. Lowndes County Public Relations officer Rhonda Sanders said that something new with the event this year is that all proceedings made from concessions will be donated to people who are currently battling cancer, as it will go right into their costs for chemotherapy, travel and hospital bills.
“We are asking the community to come out,” said Sanders. “Eat at the concession stand, if you don’t like going into the haunted house. Bring your family, it’s very family oriented. Come to the haunted house so that you can give back to the community.”
Other funding raised is going towards children in foster care, as it will help fund the Christmas operations for those kids as well as funding towards 2,000 turkeys that will be given out to the community. Sanders said that this year’s haunted house has been renovated.
“It’s totally different this year,” said Sanders. “It’s really scary, and we have almost 75 volunteers that’s working the haunted house. We just want people to come out. It’s for a good cause and the community to come together and help us raise money for these children.”
Horror at the Fairgrounds kicks off at 6 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m.
