Jackpot tops $1 Billion mark
MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) – Interest and sales in Mississippi’s Lottery have been growing for the past week as the Powerball jackpot creeps closer and closer to record territory.
Sales for Monday night’s drawing in the nationwide game were 86% higher than last Monday’s sales, and since no one matched all five numbers plus the Powerball number, the jackpot has now rolled over to $1 billion.
That is the largest U.S. lottery jackpot so far this year, and it’s the eighth-largest Powerball jackpot.
Now, that $1 billion is if you take the annual payout. If you take the cash option, it’s just over $433 million.
