Local United Way group kicks off annual Adopt a Family program

MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) – While we may be counting down the days until Thanksgiving, one group is focused on making Christmas merry and bright for some area families.

The United Way of Lowndes and Noxubee Counties is kicking off its annual Adopt a Family program.

The United Way selects families who have financial emergencies or adversities beyond their control and gathers information about the family’s needs and their children’s wants for Christmas.

Individuals, organizations, or businesses can go to the United Way’s website, select a family, download the list, and provide the gifts for that family.

“We’re getting ready to kick off our 2023 Adopt a Family program because we’re getting all these families adopted. Each family’s gifts get wrapped, tagged, and bowed before going out of our building. So, we’ll need volunteers between December 1 and December 10 to help us wrap all those gifts. If individuals or groups would like to adopt a family for 2023, they can visit our website at liveunitedms.org,” said Quan Walker, Volunteer Director of United Way of Lowndes and Noxubee Counties.

The deadline to drop off gifts is December 1.
