Lowndes County concert series getting ready to kick off Fall season

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) –

If you’re looking for live music in the Golden Triangle, you may want to explore a corner of Lowndes County.

The Barn Concert Series has been bringing nationally known artists to the area for five years.

On average, Steve and Kay Ellis stage six shows a year, three in the Spring and three in the Fall, at the barn at their New Hope home, with each show featuring two artists.

Past performers have included the likes of Paul Thorn, Mac McAnally, and Guy Davis.

The traditional Country stylings of Dale Watson and the modern Blues of The Deltaz are coming this Fall.

Not only is there good music, but concert-goers also get dinner and a few beverages.

Each show has an impact in the local community as well. At the food tent, there is a donation jar with proceeds going to a local charity.

Among this season’s recipients will be the Joy Prom.

Organizer, Steve Ellis takes a personal approach in vetting the artists.

“We don’t bring anybody to The Barn that I haven’t heard play live. Because, you’ve gotta get that feel. How do they interact with the audiences? And how good are they, really, when they’re not in the studio? When they’re playing live? Nothing like live music, you know.”
