MHP troopers ensure motorists have safe holiday

MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) – Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers were making sure motorists had a safe Christmas season.

The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is underway. Troopers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers and other traffic violations.

Officers said only one drink can impair drivers and slow reaction time. Also, if you see a suspected impaired driver, call 911 and report it.

Troop F Staff Sergeant Bryan McGee also said it’s important to buckle up when you hit the road.

“It only takes a second to put a seatbelt on and that’s super important. Also, your airbag is designed to help. It’s supplemental and that really needs to be worn. So, don’t think you’re safe with just the airbag. You need to have that seat belt on,” said McGee.

McGee encouraged everyone to make plans for Christmas get-togethers, and holiday travel. He said to allow extra time for heavy traffic and don’t get in a rush.
