Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science hosts its annual Science Carnival
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- Physics with Barbie dolls and Chemistry with diapers? Sounds, well, interesting, and that’s just what Science stdents at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science hoped for.
MSMS hosted its annual Science Carnival Friday morning. Students presented experiments and other hands-on educational activities for elementary school students fro around the area.
The older students wantedtheir younger counterparts to see the cool side of science.
And they hope that by making science more accessible to them, maybe more of them will be encouraged to pursue the subjects when they get older.
The MSMS students served as guides and demonstrators, and they think some of the school’s future students may have been in today’s crowd.
“I totally believe that some of these are MSMS future kids, because a lot of them, you just see like a sparkle in their eyes,a nd they’re like ‘oh my gosh, like I want to do this!’ And then they’ll ask you like, ‘How did you get here? Are you in college?’ And, you’re like ‘No, I’m in high school, but you should definitely like come here if you’re interested.’ And, they’re like, yeah, I came here last year, and it was so fun. I definitely think these are future MSMS kids.”
All aspects of science and engineering were on display from biology to physics to robotics.
