Mississippi State student group helps students who are away from home

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Mississippi State University’s Student Body Association is making campus life easier for students.

“It is our food pantry that we have here on campus for students who may be struggling with food insecurity. So, we have different items that are not just limited to food items. We have school supplies and hygiene products. It’s really just a resource for students that do not have money to buy the resources on their own,” said Ellie Herndon, MSU student body association president.

The group is collecting donations of food and hygiene items for Bully’s Pantry. SBA President Ellie Herndon said she wanted to make sure students don’t feel alone.

“It is our job as a student association to serve the student body in all capacities but most importantly help students know about their resources. So, I think it is important that students know that this is something that Mississippi State has provided for them. So, it is important for us to give back to the students that are in need,” said Herndon.

And with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up, MSU wanted to be the home away from home for the students that are away from their families.

“We had two big reasons that we did it this week. Especially during the holiday season, we have students that may not be able to travel back home during the winter break so making sure that they have food and resources as they stay here during the holiday season at Mississippi State,” said Herndon.
