‘One Mississippi’: Starkville students show pride by singing new state song

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Some Starkville students are showing their Mississippi pride by singing the state song, “One Mississippi.”

The song was designated as the official state song in 2022 through a bill signed by Governor Tate Reeves.

The song’s writer and composer, Steve Azar, was at Henderson Ward Stewart as elementary and high school students sang it at a special program.

Azar also talked about his new children’s book based on the song.

Although the book is not yet available for purchase, elementary students in the Starkville School District will get a copy thanks to the “Reading 2 Succeed” program.
