One person confirmed dead in 18-wheeler crash

CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) –

The driver in a fatal 18-wheeler crash in Clay County has been identified. According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, 62-year old Donald McIntyre from Marietta, Mississisppi was traveling south on Highway 45 when he ran off the road & crashed into a mini-storage facility in the Northwood Forest Road area

Officials say the accident happened around 9:00 AM Wednesday.

Witnesses said the truck left the road and did not appear to hit the brakes.

McIntyre was pronounced dead at the scene.

Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott says it was an intense crash scene.

“The initial call was a truck off in the ditch, but when we topped the hill and saw what it ws, it was massive when we got here. Again, this 18-wheeler, it was buried inside of the storage building. The roof and stuff was on top of it. No way to get to the driver, so we immdeiately had to call big wreckers to get in, come here along with West Point Fire and Rescue, drag the truck backwards to be able to get into the truck. So, it was pretty, as they say, horrendous, as far as the amount of damage, and, again, it was just a blessing nobody else was injured or killed in this.”

McIntyre was a driver for Bud Coley Trucking out of Tupelo. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash.
