One stand out firefighter from Columbus Fire and Rescue has been named Firefighter of the Year
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)-
He’s only been with Columbus Fire and Rescue for about four years, but James Dunnam has made an impression on his peers.
Thursday October 29th , Dunnam was named the Columbus Fire and Rescue Firefighter of the Year.
The annual honor is voted on by C F and R personnel and presented by the Columbus Exchange Club.
Dunnam has lived in Mississippi since he was seven years old and is a graduate of New Hope High School.
He says he came to firefighting later in life. He joined the department in 2022, but he took to it immediately.
“I’ve always liked the idea of helping people, and being there for people. Whenever I did take the job, it didn’t take long for me to get in there and absolutely love it. I love being there for people, and on their worst days, that’s what we’re here for.”
Professionally, it’s been a pretty good year for Dunnam. Earlier this year he was promoted to Engineer.
