Online security more important – and more difficult – in the age of Artificial Intelligence

Be mindful of your digital fingerprint, for you and your kids

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Artificial Intelligence is making online security more important, and, in some ways, more difficult.

Cassie Griffin with Griffin Security and Technolgy shared some insights and strategies with members of the Columbus Lowndes Chamber of Commerce today.

What started out as an enhanced search engine has grown into a massive part of our everyday lives, and you may not realize how much you are adding to it and how much of that follows you.

Griffin says our devices are building digital profiles or digital fingerprints by tracking the things we search, view, and buy online.

She says it’s important to be careful about what you share, because so much is being collected to get a better “picture” of you.

And, that also applies to what you share about your friends, family, and especially your children.

“Consider the digital footprint that you’re creating for your children, and that comes from the parents, from where they’re going to play sports or take music lessons or any of their social media presence online. Think about that, and what you share, but also that goes to chat and how you’re talking about ‘Why is my kid acting this way?’ Or, they did this or they did that. Think about the fact that you could very well be building this massive digital profile that follows them into adulthood.”

Griffin says with A I phone and text scams becoming so much more sophisticated, on of the best security moves you can take is to come up with a secret family and friends only password, and to keep it analog, don’t share it in any way online.
