Scout Troop 1 meets with Columbus Exchange Club

COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Exchange Club and scout troop leaders met a Lion Hills today.

Columbus Scout Troop 1 presented the club with a proclamation of appreciation for the over 100 years of commitment and sponsorship to the troop. The presentation was led by troop parent Cassie Griffin.

“We want it to be a two-way partnership with them because they’ve got all of these ways that they serve the community,” said Griffin. “And we’ve got kids, and they are willing and able to help in community service projects. Part of what we’re going to do over the next year is really grow the presence of the troop and do some more fundraising and some more service projects to where hopefully we can get these boys out there, these girls out there with this unlimited energy, and put that to good work.”

Griffin also spoke with Exchange Club about the future of growth for local scout troops, and repairs to their scout hut. Griffin didn’t know much about the hut until she first laid eyes on it, but the hut turned into a blast to the past for her, in which she wants the next generation to experience.

“I felt like I was walking through a time capsule,” said Griffin. “It felt like what childhood used to be. It felt like summer camp, because the walls are covered in hand carved signs, birdhouses, derby cars, first aid kits, like, this is what I want my kids to be involved in.”

A board meeting was held after the presentation to go over the next two phases, with repairs to the local scout hut being phase one and bringing in more kids as phase 2.
