Speaker of the Mississippi House encourages students to bring their talents back home

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Some of Mississippi’s most academically gifted high school students started their school year Wednesday, and the Speaker of the Mississippi House of Representatives encouraged them to consider staying in the state.

State Represetnative Jason White was the featured speaker at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science Convocation.

White encouraged the students, who come from all over the state to the residential high school, to get involved with the local community during their time at MSMS.

He also urged them to give back to Mississippi, and one of the best ways to do that, he says is by putting their talents to work in their home state.

“And, I’m trying to plant that seed of ‘Hey, we need you here in Mississippi.’ When you get this great education, both here and in your higher ed experience, wherever that is, whether it’s in our state or out, we want you to come back home and be a part of Mississippi’s momentum and keep it going and carry us to that next place. Really want to encourage them in that area. We want them here, and we need them here.”

White also encouraged those in attendance to stay involved and keep their foot on the gas for education and economic development.
