Students express creativity with their fashion ideas in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Creativity stole the spotlight tonight in Columbus as students turned books and newspapers into runway fashion.

A packed house and big energy filled the room as students hit the runway wearing designs made from book pages and newspapers.

From dresses and skirts to hats, purses, and even light‑up accessories, every piece was created by the kids themselves.

The students walked with confidence — smiling, having fun, and showing off their creativity as the crowd cheered them on.

There were winners and runner‑ups for both boys and girls, but judges say everyone who participated was a winner for having the courage to get out there and express themselves.

“I got to build my self-esteem by walking and listening to the crowd cheer me on, and I got to put my name out there,” said Ryleigh, Girls’ category winner. “It felt amazing because to get the opportunity to walk down a runway, and to show, like, yourself, and to show who you are”.

“I felt amazed that I thought I was the winner. And I was shy,” said Boys’ category winner, Cameron.

Organizers said they hope events like this continue to inspire students to think creatively, both on and off the runway.
