Supervisors don’t anticipate millage increase for new budget

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Cities and counties across Mississippi are finalizing their budgets for the next fiscal year.

In Lowndes County, the County Administrator is still developing a spending plan, and from there Supervisors will levy the millage for the county.

They will also levy the millage for the school district based on that board’s budget.

With about a week to go, supervisors don’t anticipate haveing to increase the millage rate above what was levied for last fiscal year. But there is one difference, the overall value of property in the county increased over last year’s appraisal, meaning the value of each mill also increased.

“There can be a situation where you have the same millage, and that’s what I was talking about when you levy the same millage. It would mean more money into the Lowndes County tax, receiving more tax money, just because the value of the mill increased.”

Lowndes County’s millage will be levied and the budget approved by Tuesday, September 15th.
