TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)-

The latest selection in a city wide reading initiative for Tupelo is unveiled.

“The Calamity Club’ by Kathryn Stockett is the selection for this year’s “Tupelo Reads.” Stockett is author of the bestseller, “The Help.”

The annual initiative focuses on one novel, and community members of all ages are encouraged to read the book and join in an event this spring.

Lisa Reed is one of the organizers of “Tupelo Reads.” She says “The Calamity Club” is set in Oxford in the 1930s.

“It revolves around three women, a young woman named Meg, in an orphan asylum, another woman from the Delta, older woman and another character and these three women intersect, I think the Calamity Club, they have really hard lives and intersect, but out of the intersection comes some good things.”

Stockton will be in Tupelo April 7th for the Tupelo Reads Community Event at the Lee County Library. You can get the book at the Library or the Gumtree Bookstore.
