The Reed family ventures into real estate development with ‘The Breakaway’ in Oxford
OXFORD, MISS. (WCBI) – While he has been in and around retail all his life, Jack Reed Junior has entered new territory with this business venture.
“The Breakaway is a new ballgame to use a football metaphor,” Reed said.
Of course, Oxford, the home of Ole Miss, and football are synonymous. And in recent years, Oxford has become one of the premier locations, with the highest population growth rate and a booming economy. Reed attended Ole Miss in the early 1970s, and sensed the time was right for a commercial and residential development.
“The Breakaway ” is located on North Lamar, less than a mile from the square. The first floor features “The Stillhouse Wine and Spirits” and an R.W. Reed Company, Core Cycle, and Outdoor. Reed says the name of the project was inspired by both the retail and residential spaces in the 10 million dollar development.
“The Breakaway is when the leader decides to break away from the pack; also, this will be a breakaway from Memphis, Dallas, Houston, Dallas, Nashville, people who want to have a place in Oxford, a second home, or move to Oxford,” Reed said.
The second and third floors feature luxury condos, with three on each level. One unit is already furnished, if a buyer wants a truly move-in-ready condo. Each unit is right at 2,100 square feet, with three bedrooms and three and a half baths. Each unit also has elevator access.
“I think the two things that distinguish us most are outdoor space to be able to get on our porches, which are bigger than others, that increases part of your break room; you can fold back the doors; two middle ones have double wide porches, and primary baths are regal,” Reed said.
Core Cycle and Outdoor Owner Claude Clayton says “The Breakaway’ is in a prime location for future growth.
‘It has been five years in the making, this location, we got in the Oxford market, liked the Oxford market, but needed a better location,” Clayton said.
Each condo comes with two parking spaces, which is also a big sell in Oxford. And during football season, the condos will be popular with game day weekenders.
‘We have boldly taken this on, first time Reeds has gotten into real estate development like this, we think there are six great places, for families who are looking for great places, we expect them to move pretty quickly,” Reed said.
“The Breakaway’ strengthens the R. W. Reed company’s footprint in both of North Mississippi’s university towns, and provides a new commercial anchor in one of Oxford’s fastest growing business corridors.
