The Trotter Convention Center has a few  proposals for improvement

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)-

The Columbus City Council is still trying to work out a use policy for the Trotter Convention Center.

At the center of the issue is who has to pay to use the city-run facility. To some extent city-sponsored events have been exempt from the rental fee.

But, the question that often comes up is what constitutes a city-sponsored event?

Convention Center Director Rogena Bonner brought proposals to the council at a work session Wednesday morning.

The Council is expected to narrow the definition of city use to those events which are to present information to residents or request input; things like public forums, town halls, and disaster response registration.

Bonner also brought forth ar equest for rental rate changes given recent upgrades to the venue.

“Just trying to make sure we’re maximizing the potentials of the Trotter. Make sure it’s a return on the investment that we’re putting into the trotter, which allows us, you know, to make the upgrades.”

In another matter, the Council voted to reinstate Public Works Director Casey Bush’s 3 percent pay raise, which had been rescinded at a special meeting earlier this week.
