Yazoo City Board of Aldermen votes to hire Columbus Police Chief Joseph Daughtry to lead Yazoo City’s Police Department
COLUMBUS/YAZOO CITY, Miss. (WCBI) – It looks like the City of Columbus will be searching for a new “top cop”.
CBS affiliate, WJTV, reports that at last night’s meeting, the Yazoo City Board of Aldermen voted to hire current Columbus Police Chief Joseph Daughtry to lead Yazoo City’s Police Department.
Daughtry has about 30 years of law enforcement experience.
He was hired as the Chief in Columbus in December of 2022.
Before coming to Columbus, he served as the police chief for the City of Natchez.
Daughtry also served as chief in Pelahatchie for two years and served in the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office and the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office.
Daughtry’s name had also been on the short list earlier this year for the Chief’s job in Jackson.
WCBI reached out to Columbus Mayor Stephen Jones earlier today, but he would not comment on the record.
