Younger’s departure causing ripple effect in Lowndes County politics

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – State Senator Chuck Younger’s announcement last week that he will seek the Transportation Commissioner post is causing a ripple effect in other offices.

Lowndes County District Two Supervisor Trip Hairston has announced that he will be running for Younger’s District 17 State Senate seat.

Hairston, a Republican, is in his second term as Supervisor.

He has served as Board President since 2020.

During that time the county has seen significant new investment and expansions in its business and industrial sector.

Hairston has also worked as a budget analyst for the Mississippi Legislative Budget Office, and managed Nephrology Associates P.C.

He is the first candidate to announce for the District 17 seat.
