Video: Habitat For Humanity Helps One Family In Need
HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) – They try to give back to the community every year in big ways. Saturday Habitat for Humanity dedicated a house to a family that needed it the most.
After their old home was destroyed by a tornado, Habitat for Humanity helped the Shephard’s get their brand new home. They’ve been in the home since November.
“It’s perfect and it’s just awesome,” says her youngest son Tyler.
“There’s much space for the family,” adds her youngest daughter Dematria.
Temeca Shephard a single mother says, it’s a dream come true. She’s grateful she can now provide her four children with everything they need. Her youngest son is excited to show his room.
“My son was 7 months old when I applied for the house, he was seven years old when I was selected,” says Temeca.
A short dedication ceremony celebrated the completion of the Habitat build and what they were able to do for the family.
“When we found her, they were her and her four children were living in just inadequate living space and so right away made them one we would consider because we want to help people that really have need,” said Dr. Randy Hienhart, Habitat for Humanity Director.
Habitat for Humanity started building the house in early 2012 and finished just before the holidays. The Shephard’s were able to spend Christmas together in their new four bedroom home.
“It was kinda a blessing because some people didn’t get to get one and I was just thanking God because we was one of the lucky ones,” says her oldest daughter Amari.
“That’s the best part about Habitat for humanity, it’s not a hand out, it’s a hand up,” adds Dr. Hienhart.
Temeca’s father did most of the building with help from Habitat for Humanity.
