EMCC Lands Six on NJCAA All-American Teams
SCOOBA, Miss. (WCBI) – The newly named ‘Titletown’ is quickly becoming an ‘All-American’ town as well.
The EMCC Lions football team landed six players on the NJCAA All-American football teams for the 2013 season after the release on Monday.
Sophomore quarterback Dontreal Pruitt and sophomore offensive lineman Avery Gennesy were named first team All-Americans while sophomore defensive lineman Jimmie Gipson brought home first team All-American honors on the defense.
Pruitt finished the season passing for 3,939 yards and 45 touchdowns to become EMCC’s fifth straight quarterback to be named an NJCAA All-American. The Laurel native joins Randall Mackey (twice), Brad Henderson, Bo Wallace, and Quez Johnson as Lions QB’s to be named an All-American the last six seasons. He is currently verbally committed to play for the Troy Trojans next season.
Gennesy joins Pruitt on the first-team All-American offense as the 6’5″ 305 lb sophomore will play for Kevin Sumlin and the Texas A&M Aggies beginning in the 2014 season.
Gipson led the Lions in sacks during the 2013 season with 17 to go along with 65 tackles which ranks him fourth on the team. The Coldwater, Mississippi native is mulling over multiple scholarship offers.
Sophomores Christian Russell, D.J. Pettway and A.J. Stamps also were named NJCAA All-Americans on Monday. Russell was named to the second team while Pettway and Stamps earned honorable mention.
EMCC ended the 2013 season as the NJCAA National Champions for the second time in the last three seasons after defeating Georgia Military 52-32 in the 2013 Mississippi Bowl in Biloxi.
