United Way shows appreciation to dads with Father’s Day Festival

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – With June 15 being Father’s Day, residents of Columbus show their appreciation with a community-wide event.

The United Way of the Golden Triangle Region held its inaugural Father’s Day Festival.

It was a special Father’s Day for dads from the Columbus area.

The United Way of the Golden Triangle Region hosted a Father’s Day Festival at Propst Park.

“I feel like dads aren’t the kind of people who, or men in general, aren’t the people to put a lot of spotlight on themselves,” Deshuni Sanders said. “So, to spotlight the fathers in the community, because we have some really good dads in the community.”

The family event featured food vendors, arts and crafts activities, and music for all attendees.

Event organizers said they wanted to shed light on the essential role of fatherhood.

“I really do believe that we have a lot of good men in the community, and I feel proud to be able to put some together like this to give somebody a place to go to feel appreciated,” Sanders said.

A Father and a vendor for the event said they appreciate the recognition being shown by the community.

“To all the fathers, keep doing what you are doing,” Ben Gardner said. “I mean, don’t stop, don’t change, just make sure you do as my father would always tell me is to take care of what you are supposed to take care of, and everything will work out. Supporting the United Way, I also gave a donation, so just giving and helping out.”

The United Way of the Golden Triangle Region plans to host the Father’s Day event annually.
