Lending a hand this “Holliday” season

ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) – An area business and its associated foundation brought a little Christmas fun and joy to Aberdeen. They even had Santa and the Grinch working together.

She was once a single, teenage mom living paycheck to paycheck, so Dr. Katina Holliday knows how tough the holidays can be.
She made it through those tough times and became a successful businesswoman. Now through her foundation, Holliday’s helping hands and Freshly’s Market, she works to ease that stress for other families and give back to her hometown of Aberdeen.

“I totally understand the difference in having to pay your light bill or get your kids a toy and if there’s someone out there that can lend a helping hand that what we do at Holliday’s Helping Hands so I’m here for it,” Holliday said.

People got to see some of the fruits of the foundation and Freshly’s work as 50 children got to pick out a toy and get their pictures taken with Santa Saturday morning.
The kids were chosen from those who sent in “Dear Mr. Grinch” letters about what they wanted for Christmas.
Freshly’s and its customers help drive the programs of Holliday’s Helping Hands foundation, like purchasing the gifts given out at this event.

“Here at Freshly’s we have a roundup program whereas they buy the groceries they can determine if they want to round up to the foundation and nine times out of ten, our customers round up and so they help purchase these things that we do here in Aberdeen,” she said. “So, it’s not the only thing that we do here we do several different things throughout the year and so because of that were able to do this as well.”

For Holliday, it’s not about her. It’s about being able to do Kingdom Work; to be able to give back what the Lord has given to her.

“Believe in and that God gave me. I’m a kingdom builder right and because I’m a kingdom builder I’m here to his work here on earth that’s what I was chosen to do so I always say I ain’t got to do this work I get to do this work and I get to do it with love I get to do it with kindness and I get provide both for gods people here on earth because I’m the vessel that he has chosen to do that and I don’t take it lightly,” Holliday said.

And for Holliday, that’s the best gift she can give to someone being able to be a light and show the heart of Christ. This was the fifth year for the toy giveaway. Holliday also recently gave a car away to a deserving mom on the Tamron Hall show. It’s her second time doing so.
