COLUMBUS, Miss., (WCBI) — Saturday, girls in Columbus-Lowndes County learned what it takes to be entrepreneurs, leaders, and successful women.

The Boys and Girls Club of Golden Triangle-Columbus Unit held its fourth annual SMART Girls Summit. The event took place from 10 am until 2 pm.

Christine Jackson, the Unit Manager, said that this year’s theme is CREATE. She says the goal is to show the girls they can be and do whatever they put their minds to.

“SMART Girls is a program that we run on a regular basis here at the Boys and Girls Club; it’s also a program for the Boys and Girls Club of America. But, this year’s theme for our SMART Girls Summit is CREATE, where we are encouraging young ladies ages 9-18 to actually form some individuality and just choose the path that’s best for them,” Jackson said.

The girls were able to interact with successful women who owned their own businesses. Vendors were on hand to showcase their careers to the girls.
