Parkview project is progressing
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – If you’ve driven down Third Street North, you’ve noticed the hillside has gone from green and hilly to completely cleared as work continues on Parkview.
A new neighborhood in a historic corner of Columbus is beginning to take shape.
Nic Parish, CEO of The Burns Group and Friendly City Development, says progress on Parkview is going well.
So far, 12 home lots have been sold, home blueprints are beginning to be submitted, and now Friendly City is seeking commercial developers for future retail space.
“All of that is underway; everything now is getting streets and streetlights and sidewalk prep, but we’re already approving house plans. We approved the second one yesterday; it looks beautiful, so people are just — now they’re in a waiting period to start construction.”
He says this project is energizing people, and they are fielding interest from people who currently live outside the city and want to make the move to Columbus to become part of the downtown community.
In recent years, Columbus has suffered from some negative publicity in some circles.
Parish says projects like Parkview have people taking a closer look at the city’s positives.
“There’s a lot of interest from outside of town and that’s what people that necessarily live locally don’t hear, but being in the construction and development world, there are a lot of people from outside of Columbus looking at what Columbus is doing and going ‘I want to be a part of that.'”
Parish says there are people like him, who live in Columbus and care about the city and want to see the best for it.
And they’re putting in the work to make it happen. Soon, what appears to just be dirt work will be a thriving neighborhood of people who can call Columbus home.
Parish says home construction is scheduled to be completed by Spring 2027.
