Intense Heat Continues Into the Work Week
COLUMBUS, Mississippi (WCBI) — High heat and plentiful sunshine will keep us in these triple digit temperatures, at least for a little while longer.
MONDAY: An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect today across our entire area. As of publishing, the warning is set to expire at 8 p.m. in Mississippi and 9 p.m. in Alabama, although the National Weather Service anticipates issuing further alerts/advisories going out a couple more days. The high temperature for today will be around 101°, with peak heat index values of around 110°. Westerly flow, with winds at 5 to 10 mph, is helping keep these extremely hot conditions in store. However, some moisture moving into our area is also bringing in a 20% chance for showers in the late afternoon and evening hours today.
MONDAY NIGHT: Thunderstorms could linger into the evening hours, but will be all moved out of our area by midnight. Mostly clear conditions will prevail going into the early morning hours, with a low temperature of 76°.
TUESDAY: While it will still be very hot, we’re not expecting triple digit temperatures for tomorrow, as the upper level flow beings to shift more southeasterly. The high will be around 98°, with a peak heat index of 105°. Sunny skies will stick around for most of the day.
