Hot and Stormy Wednesday

COLUMBUS, Mississippi (WCBI) — Those temperatures in the triple digits are sticking around for today, but it might get a bit cooler with some potentially severe thunderstorms moving through late this afternoon.

WEDNESDAY: A heat advisory is in effect across our entire area for today until 9 p.m.. The heat index will peak around 109° this afternoon, with an actual high temperature of around 100°. Skies will be mostly sunny through the morning and early afternoon, but some isolated thunderstorms are likely to be rolling through later in the day. The Storm Prediction Center has placed our entire area under a marginal risk for severe weather today due to warm, moist, and unstable conditions that pose an isolated wind damage threat.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Conditions should calm down in the evening hours, making for quiet, partly cloudy skies overnight. The low temperature will be around 76°, and it will still be pretty humid outside.

THURSDAY: Similar to today, a marginal risk for severe weather is in place for areas north of Highway 82 for strong winds and possible isolated hail. The main threat for severe storms will roll through in the late afternoon/early evening hours, with mostly sunny skies earlier in the day. The high temperature will be 98°. Over these next two days, some areas could see rainfall amounts of greater than an inch locally.
