MSU adds transfer coordinator to help meet students where they are
STARKVILLE, Miss.— According to an MSU press release, Mississippi State is expanding its resources for transfer students with the appointment of Katelynn Potter as the university’s first coordinator for transfer services within the Center for Academic Excellence.
In her new role, Potter will focus on streamlining the transition for students arriving from community colleges and other institutions, ensuring they receive curated support to navigate university life at MSU. She previously served as an MSU transfer admissions counselor.
As an Itawamba Community College transfer who earned her MSU bachelor’s degree in public relations, advertising and applied communication in 2020, Potter brings firsthand experience to the position.
“Transfer students may know everything about their previous college, but not Mississippi State. Katelynn will be able to provide help that these students have never had,” said Center for Academic Excellence Executive Director Clay Armstrong, who explained that the staff addition is part of the Office of the Provost’s effort to bolster resources focused on student progression, creating the Academic Achievement subdivision within MSU Academic Affairs and aligning several student resources.
“This position shows Mississippi State’s commitment to meeting students where they are and helping them achieve their personal goals,” he continued. “I know Katelynn will make a difference in the lives of students.”
Potter said her primary goal is to create a seamless transition for new Bulldogs and connect them with key partners and resources across campus to help enhance their collegiate experience.
“I want to ensure that every student has the guidance and connections they need to confidently navigate their undergraduate academic journey,” she said. “I want every transfer student that I encounter to feel that Mississippi State is a place they can call home, a place where they can feel supported and empowered to achieve their academic goals and valued as an integral part of this university’s community.”
