Beyond River’s Edge highlights stories of longtime Global Outreach International missionaries
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – The documentary is titled “Beyond River’s Edge” and highlights the decades long work of Steve and Carol Thompson, missionaries to Ecuador.
Global Outreach CEO John Darnell says the idea for the documentary came after hearing story after story from the Thompsons, who have served in Ecuador through Global Outreach since 1987.
“A canoe wreck on the river in the Amazon that leads to a church being planted, them surrounded by a tribe with machetes and the tribe asking, ‘Are you the missionaries?” Or adopting and fostering an Ecuadorian boy who is now grown up to be a pastor,” Darnell said.
Global Outreach partnered with Virginia-based Moon Dog Films for the 22-minute documentary. Darnell is the host for the film. He believes the documentary will also help show the impact Global Outreach makes from its offices in Northeast Mississippi.
“Ten years living in Tupelo I have people say, Global Outreach is Tupelo’s best kept secret and that is not a good thing if you are a non profit, I also can’t pack everyone in a plane and take them to Ecuador, so making this film was the best way to show what Global Outreach is doing and what God is doing through Global Outreach,” Darnell said.
Beyond Rivers Edge caught the attention of Angel Studios, the popular streaming platform behind massive global hits like, “The Chosen.”
Global Outreach has signed a letter of intent for eight episodes with Angel Studios, featuring stories from missionaries around the world.
” It is something we need people to pray for, join in, but think about what God could, by taking these stories of what He is doing around the world into millions of homes, I long to see that day and see what God could do with that,” he said.
Darnell is hopeful Beyond Rivers Edge will inspire viewers to take action, by supporting or even going themselves.
