Columbus Police arrest two looking for a third after chase and crash

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus Police have made two arrests and are seeking a third suspect after an attempted traffic stop leads to a chase and a crash.

Thursday, Columbus Police were called to Colony Apartments about three suspicious persons looking into vehicles.

An officer spotted a Dodge Durango without a tag leaving the area. The driver was wearing a hoodie and a mask.

The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver took off westbound on Alabama Street toward Lehmberg Road.

The Durango reportedly ran the red light at Lehmberg and Alabama and caused a 3-vehicle crash.

Two people bailed out of the Durango and ran. The 17-year-old driver ran toward a wooded area but came back and was taken into custody. Another occupant ran into the woods in the opposite direction. Columbus Police are still looking for him.

An 18-year-old passenger tried to run but was injured and was quickly taken into custody.

The driver and the passenger were taken to Baptist Golden Triangle for treatment of minor injuries.

The Durango was discovered to have been carjacked in Alabama.

The 17-year-old was taken to the Lowndes County Juvenile Detention Center, and the 18-year-old was taken to the Lowndes County Jail.
