Early entry into State Auditor’s race making the rounds
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – An open Governor’s race in 2027 has other statewide elected officials cranking up their campaigns for the top slot. One who hasn’t officially announced yet is State Auditor Shad White.
But that isn’t stopping others from eyeing his current post.
At least one person has already announced his intentions to run.
A lawyer by trade, Buffington has spent much of his career helping community banks deal with fraud.
When it comes to the Auditor’s office, one of his primary goals is preventing fraud, which, in the long run, saves taxpayer money that would be spent on investigating fraud and recovering the funds.
He woluld also like to help find ways for state money to be spent more efficiently.
“I’m running for State Auditor, because I want to be State Auditor. I’m not a career politician. I want to do this job, because I think it’s really important for the taxpayers of the State of Mississippi to trust the person that’s in that position and know that’s the positionthey want to hold. I would really like to look at better ways to prevent fraud and misuse of funds, because, getting back to my point, we can do so much more with the money we have if we’re more efficient.”
Qualifying for statewide races begins in earnest in January 2027.
