Keep a fun night for the kids’ fun with safety measures on Halloween
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Within our neighborhoods Saturday night will be waves of children dressed in costumes and knocking on doors to say, ” trick or treat”.
While it’s fun, it’s also important to remember to stay safe. for starters keep an eye on the children, make sure they’re sticking close by with a friend or adult, and stay away from cars and other imminent dangers. Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office Public Relations Officer Lieutenant Rhonda Sanders gave advice to families with trick or treaters tomorrow.
“Tell your children to buddy up, said sanders. “Have 2 people going to houses, try to stay in neighborhoods that you are familiar with and you’re familiar with the people that’s in the neighborhood. I would tell the parents to make sure your children have costumes that they can’t trip in. Ask them to stay out of the street, stay on sidewalks.”
Another thing to remember is to check their candy when they get home and make sure none of it has been tampered with or appears foreign before they dig in. That candy should be sealed or wrapped.
“My biggest thing, if it looks strange, don’t eat it,” said Sanders. “If it’s a different candy that you don’t know about, don’t eat it. If it’s open, don’t let your children eat it. Just be safe.”
