Mississippi’s Senior Senator comments on Tuesday’s election results
BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. (WCBI) –
Mississippi’s Senior Senator says while he is disappointed in the results of Tuesday’s midterms, he is hopeful that his fellow senators can put partisanship aside, especially when it comes to national defense.
Senator Roger Wicker has seen Republicans in both the majority and minority during his time in office.
Senator Wicker says in the past, even when Republicans were in the minority, his colleagues worked across the aisle, on vital issues, especially when it came to national defense.
” There is great support for making sure the United States is the leader internationally, because we have stood for strength and stability, because our strength in the past has kept us out of wars. It is Ronald Reagan’s peace through strength, and he probably didn’t invent that phrase. Right now we are a little behind the Chinese communists. They manufacture 200 ships for every one we make. It is an astounding statistic but it is true and we cannot continue with that type of disparity.
And I appreciate President Trump proposing a fifty percent increase this fiscal year, in defense spending.”
Senator Wicker said the Mississippi Senate race, between incumbent Senator Cindy Hyde Smith and Democratic Challenger Scott Colom proves that every vote does count.
