The annual Welty Symposium and Gala is back again at the Mississippi University For Women. It is held annually to raise money for the MUW Scholarship Fund and to help promote Southern writers. Kiese Laymon is the keynote speaker for this year's symposium held in Poindexter Hall on the MUW campus October 10th-12th from 9a-12p and 1:30p-4p. John Feinstein will host the gala at the Trotter Convention Center on October 11th at 7p. Sponsorships are available for $50 or $100.…

French Camp Harvest Festival

Activities begin at 9:30 AM in the Natchez Trace Historic District. Experience the Grand Auction of homegrown and handcrafted items or purchase pre-priced items in the Country Store. Quilts, pottery, woodcrafts, produce, artwork, and jewelry are just a few of the items for sale. Children of God pottery will be available in the Pottery Studio. French Camp Harvest Festival Benefit Auction supports the ministry of French Camp Academy and 5 French Camp area churches. Auction items are handmade items and can include quilts, handmade furniture (tables, chairs, rocking chairs, cabinets, picnic tables, book shelves), painted canvases, wall hangings, vintage furniture that has been refinished and/or painted, door wreaths and signs and items made out of old wood. Friday October 18th gates open at 5 with a free concert starting at 6pm with local rockabilly group Rust Bucket Roadies, followed by nationally known country artist Jeff Bates then Doug Stone. Immediately following will be a fireworks show. Saturday October 19th starts at 8:30am with arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, car show, pet parade, and large children's area!
