Gulf Moisture Returns

COLUMBUS, Mississippi (WCBI) — As the subtropical high pressure over the Atlantic shifts westward, Gulf moisture returns as southerly flow intensifies — bringing with it high humidity and chances of thunderstorms every afternoon.

FRIDAY: The morning will be mostly sunny, but by noon, a 20% chance of thunderstorms will stick around for the rest of the day. These storms will be scattered, so the sun may still shine through at some points, but definitely make sure to have an umbrella handy. The high temperature will be 94°, but with the higher humidity it will feel more like 101°.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Temperatures will get down to about 74°. That chance of thunderstorms will linger in the evening hours, but the threat will die off by about midnight. Some patchy fog is expected to form close to sunrise because of the increased humidity.

SATURDAY: The patchy fog will dissipate within an hour or so of sunrise, revealing mostly sunny skies in the morning. Conditions will be pretty similar to today, with a high around 94° and a peak heat index of 103°. The chance for afternoon thunderstorms will be a little greater, though, as more scattered storms are expected to move across the area tomorrow, likely starting and tapering off earlier than today.
