Investigation underway: Sanitation worker killed in Lowndes County

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A sanitation worker was killed after being attacked by a dog and then run over by a garbage truck in Lowndes County.

The accident happened just before 11 a.m. November 1 on Hanson Drive, near the Alabama state line.

Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said an aggressive dog was attacking 31-year-old Jonirus Davis, of Steens, before falling and was hit by the truck.

Coroner Greg Merchant told WCBI the garbage truck was backing down the lane and the driver did not see Davis fall.

Davis died at the scene.

The victim worked for Golden Triangle Waste Services.

Two dogs were seized by the sheriff’s department.

This accident is still under investigation.
