TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)- The Mississippi Department of Child Protective Services has been celebrating adoptive families across the state, including in Tupelo.

The organization is working to show adoptive families love and support in their adoption journey.

MCPS hosted their Forever Loved Adoption event in Tupelo Saturday to celebrate adoptions finalized in 20-23. but they are not only celebrating recent adoptions.

The organization reached out to all of their families to invite them to celebrate their journey and to be able to connect with other adoptive families.

Commissioner Andrea Sanders said that it is important for families to come together and show each other support.

“This is an opportunity to really pull people together and celebrate the joyful part of what we do while acknowledging that this is not the easy path to adoption and it is not for everybody, it is a special family that chooses to step up and do this,” Sanders said. “This is an opportunity for families to come together and to celebrate the gifts of the children that have come into their homes and to also create community and support for each other.”

Jason and Nicole Russell are parents of adopted children. They agreed that these events provide a community for adoptive families.

“I think it’s great because families can come and be a part of something like this because they need other families to be apart and we come together and be a family together because you need support to support each other,” Nicole said.

Forever Loved provides support for children as well as their parents.

“A lot of times they do not know that other kids are adopted so coming to an event like this kind of lets them see that they are not alone, they are not the only ones that are kind of outside of the quote normal family,” Jason said.

Over 400 families registered for the Forever Loved event.
