Noxubee General Hospital hosts health fair
NOXUBEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Every year Noxubee General Hospital brings residents and healthcare professionals together in an effort to improve the health of the community.
“There’s a lot of people that wouldn’t get any type of medical screenings, if, if they weren’t offered for free, so we offer that and hopefully if we catch something will catch it early and get them taken care of,” Beverly Clark.
For Angela Turner, it’s an opportunity to learn more about the options available to her.
“Well, just learning more about my health and continue to keep my, you know my health and, you know, good shape and everything so,” said Turner.
Jessica Hunt said the health fair also promotes benefits for medicare recipients.
“Medicare patients are eligible for a free annual wellness visit every year. And so we’re trying to get all of our Medicare patients to come in and get that free visit because that does depression screenings fall risk assessment, cognitive assessment. There’s a lot of wonderful things, and we’ve actually found some great stories and success stories from patients who have come and had that done and wouldn’t be able to catch things early,” said Hunt.
She said the main thing holding some people back is fear.
“Part of it is they’re kind of scared to, you know, see what might come up. And it’s really a very simple painless screening, but you know a lot of patients that unknown is a scary thing,” said Hunt.
Organizers hope people will continue to seek care after the fair is over.
