Possible six shooters involved in Columbus investigation

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- Columbus Police are investigating a shootout that took place on the east side of the city Wednesday night.

Officers arrived at the scene at McCrary Road and Forrest Boulevard shortly after 5 PM.

A male victim was found at the scene.

Law enforcement believes there may be as many as six-shooters involved in the incident.

It’s reported that over 50 shell casings were found at the scene.

Assistant Chief Doran Johnson does not believe this is a random act of violence.

“We do suspect that they knew each other. It’s not a random shooting. We will be trying to get surveillance cameras and get some video so we can identify the shooters and hopefully, we can make some arrests,” said Johnson.

The investigation is ongoing.
