Superintendent releases statement following school bus crash
16 children are injured in a Lowndes County school bus accident.
LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss (WCBI) – Lowndes County School District Superintendent Dr. Sam Allison released a statement Wednesday morning following the school bus crash from Tuesday afternoon.
Eighteen people were injured including 16 children on Tuesday, September 16. Three of those were airlifted to hospitals outside of the area.
Allison said in his statement:
“We are thankful today the outcome of Tuesday’s bus accident was not more tragic. Several of those involved face a road to recovery, and we ask you keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.
We also want to thank the first responders who answered the call. We are grateful for their quick response, service and care in the aftermath of the accident.
We ask everyone to please use extra caution whenever you see a school bus on the road. Remember every school bus is carrying our most precious cargo, our students.
Please stay alert, use caution and help us keep our students safe. “
Law enforcement told WCBI 22 children were on the Lowndes County School bus traveling north on Highway 45.
Mississippi Highway Patrol said a 2025 Honda Civic was traveling east on Artesia Road when it collided with the bus.
