Tupelo church partners with food bank to hand out holiday meals

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Thanksgiving is less than one week away and a Tupelo church is making sure that no one goes hungry on the holiday.

Harrisburg Baptist Church has partnered with the Mid South Food Bank out of Memphis. On Saturday, November 18, volunteers will hand out 500 boxes of food.

Those food boxes will include a turkey, along with enough food for a family. There will be a limit of two boxes per car, and it is free to Mississippi residents.

The church’s missions pastor says the outreach is a way to help those who are hurting and need help during the holiday.

“Job loss, financial loss, the economy, whatever is going on in your life that is keeping you from having a great Thanksgiving. We want you to know that Harrisburg loves you and we invite you to come be a part of this Saturday morning,” said Dr. Clay Anthony, Missions Pastor.

Volunteers will start handing out the food boxes at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Just go to the Harrisburg parking lot and have an ID, or utility bill, to prove that you’re a Mississippi resident.
