Artesia, Miss.(WCBI)-Mississippi Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley has given the go ahead for the transfer of the town of Artesia’s natural gas system to Atmos Energy.

Atmos Energy crews began the change today [Monday]. Business customers will also see a 52 percent reduction from $111.15 to $46.58.

“Because we’re going to be able to cut rates, bring quality service and make sure that the folks here have low cost natural gas service that is reliable and economical,” said Brandon Presley, PSC.

“We’ve got men here who actually be changing out the meters putting our facilities in. We’ve got men in here who work on construction crews that will be digging up some of the pipe that’s in the ground right now to see what we’ve got, make sure that everything is safe,” said Michelle Whittle, Atmos Energy.

The Artesia natural gas system has 60 customers. Eventually, they’ll be able to conduct wireless meter reading.
